My Say... #164

When a person (Spiritual Leader) starts preaching  influencing a large number of people, he is just trying to share his views/techniques on living a happier life. We (a large majority) should be taking the essence of his 'teachings'  and apply it into our day-to-day lives, instead, we start making a God out of him.

  1. There is a line in Bhaja Govindam "udhara nimittham bahu krutha vesham...." For the sake of stomach, several disguises. Not all the ochre- robed men are spiritual leaders,as we are witness to in the recent past.
Listen to good teachings from whatever source and follow them if they are in accord with sacred texts and your own perception.

    1. When I say "spiritual Leaders" In my quote, I am referring to people like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Jaggi Vasudev, and not any other Frauds. Of course, I used to read/listen to quite some religious writing or discourses given by various people in different timelines.
At the end of the day nothing really makes sense, unless you put an effort to consciously change your thinking.
There is nothing called as "good" teachings or "bad" teachings. If the person who is being thought is benefited in any way, even the so called bad teaching for the society, is a good one for him. Thats what Jaggi vasudev's Inner engineering is all about. not religion or tradition or even idol worship. No, i amn't promoting him or advertising this in any way. Nor do I worship him or any other spiritual leaders. I just take what is useful to me, and follow it to lead a peaceful and stress free life, without getting negatively affected by whatever happens around me.
At the end of the day, people should do what matters to them ( what ever is convenient to them) to keep themselves happy.

Thanks for your comment. By the way, I listen to the Bhaja Govindam sung by MS Subbalaksmi. But i dont remember me having come across the line you mentioned in your comment. Is this from a malayalam movie? It would be kind of you, if you could share this version of bhaja govindam with me.

    2. Verse 14: ~~~~~~~
      jatilo mundi lunchitakeshah
      kaashaayaambara bahukritaveshah
      pasyannapi cha na pasyati moodhah
      udaranimitam bahukritaveshah
The ascetic with matted locks, the man with the shaven head or one with hair pulled out, or the man parading in the ochre robes -- they all have eyes but yet do not see. All these are but deceptions for cheating the world, for filling their bellies. (Renunciation does not lie in external appearance, but in inward thought, attitude and feeling).
